Project Title
Convection and Stirring in the Earth and Venus

Brief Description for General Publications
Over many years this project has contributed to reconciling geophysical and geochemical observations of the Earth’s mantle, and understanding the evolution of the mantle over the age of the Earth. Important advances are documented in the listed publications from the past few years. A continuing task is to transfer our understanding of Earth's evolution to the context of Venus. Venus' geology records a dramatic volcanic resurfacing several hundred million years ago. Models that generated episodic layering and overturn in Earth's mantle are being explored in the Venus context as a potential explanation of the resurfacing.
