Brief Description for General Publications
In the study of hypersonic flows, we use two major fields. Firstly, experimental flow measurements, mostly through visualisation techniques. And secondly, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for testing theory again experiments, and helping to design experiments. Of these, CFD is usually the most computationally expensive. However, new implementations of some older visualisation techniques, namely tomography, require computing resources generally not available on desktop workstations. It is hoped that my using the National Facility for this tomographic work will prove the technique as a viable alternative to other methods, providing comparable, or even better results. |
