Simulation of Seismic Wave Propagation in Complex Media

Brief Description for General Publications
We investigate the propagation of seismic waves in complex models of earth structure with emphasis on the effects of small-scale heterogeneity and 3-D problems for longer wavelength waves. The main approach is to use a wavelet-based method that can retain high-accuracy for derivative operators even in rapidly varying media. For larger scale problems we investigate the application of the Spectral-element method to 3-D problems with application to wave propagation through the Earth's mantle beneath Australia.
